The company received funding from the New England Foundation for the Arts, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, the Natick, Framingham, Hopkinton and Belmont Cultural Councils, The Pappas Family Foundation, a grant in memory of Lucy S Thorndike, as well as from many generous individual donors. RAu- CREATIVE RESIDENCY
KORHAN BASARAN – RAu in collaboration with Prometheus Dance and Kinan Azmeh.
In October of 2017, during a creative residency, Korhan made a ten minute section of RAu for the company to perform throughout the year. Our first presentation of this excerpt happened in December at the BCA for MEDICINE WHEEL PRODUCTION’S World Aids Day Observance. It is always a powerful experience to work within the vision of Michael Dowling. The company continued performing the excerpt throughout the season with great success. This work is meaningful and relevant and timely. It is reflective of human migration throughout the world, reflecting the plight of all displaced people who are seeking refuge as they flee oppression and civil war. We believe in the power of Art in times of crisis. So do Korhan and Kinan.
Korhan will be back in January 2018 for a week long residency with the company at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee where students and dancers from the community will have the opportunity to join us and work with Korhan. Watch for dates and information as the season progresses.
RAu/PROMETHEUS DANCE/KORHAN BASARAN/KINAN AZMEH/NEW MUSIC USA
Korhan Basaran will be in residence in January 2018 to hold master classes and create a second larger portion of project RAu for the company. With a grant from NEW MUSIC USA the project residency will culminate in open rehearsals, conversations about the creative process, art as a means of reconciliation and healing in times of political crisis, and an informal performance. Members of the dance community who are involved in the master classes will have a chance to perform with the company. The final phase of this project will occur in 2018/2019 with members of Korhan’s company from Turkey.
A GRANT FROM NEFA AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN EDINBURGH AND GLASGOW SCOTLAND, UK.
A recent grant from the New England Foundation for the Arts allowed Diane and Tommy to travel to Edinburgh to hold meetings on the future presentation of Project RAu. We had meetings with two of the Fringe Festival managers, the Director of Dance Base, and the Consul General of Turkey. We will be following up with the people that we met throughout the season. In Glasgow we visited the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.
We experienced many surprises in Scotland. Will we be going back? That’s the plan for the future.
THE TINY SEED:
A MOVEMENT AND ART LITERACY PROGRAM FOR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS.
PROMETHEUS DANCE DEVELOPED A PILOT PROGRAM AT THE
WOODROW WILSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN FRAMINGHAM
Our in-school residency was directed by Mary Teuscher with teaching and choreographic support from Prometheus Dancers Flora Kim and Lonnie Stanton, we worked with five third grade classrooms which culminated in a performance for classmates and family members. The program addresses the questions: Why do we succeed in our lives? What does perseverance and creative process have to do with it? How can we tell a story through movement? How can we work together to create the story and better understand it’s meaning. To inquire about residency e mail us at: firstname.lastname@example.org
